His name was Harland. He was born in a small town in the United States. He had a difficult life from the beginning. His father died when he was just a little boy. He had to work very young to help his family. He tried many different jobs over the years. He was a farmer. A soldier. A ferry operator. A tire salesman. None of them worked out really well.
But Harland had one thing he was truly good at. He could cook chicken. Specifically, fried chicken. His friends and family always said it was the best they ever had. But Harland never thought of it as something serious. It was just cooking.
Years passed. Harland got older. By the time he was sixty-two years old, he had very little money and no real career. Most people at that age think about resting. About stopping. About the end.
But Harland had an idea. He took his chicken recipe and started traveling from city to city, knocking on restaurant doors, asking them to use his recipe. The first restaurant said no. The second said no. The third said no. He heard no over one thousand times.
But at sixty-two years old, Harland Sanders did not stop. And eventually, someone said yes. Then another. Then another.
Today, you probably know his chicken very well. Because Harland Sanders is Colonel Sanders — the founder of KFC. One of the biggest restaurant companies in the entire world. And he built it after the age of sixty.
So the next time you think it is too late — remember Harland. Remember that age is just a number. That dreams do not have an expiry date. That it is never, ever too late to start something new.
You have more time than you think. You have more strength than you know. And you have everything you need to begin — right now, today, at whatever age you are.
The only thing standing between you and your dream is the story you keep telling yourself. Change the story.
